Temple Run
5 Hrs, Max Altitude: 2195m Lunch included
This ride out starts in Kathmandu where we ride via Boudha, the largest Tibetan stupa outside of Tibet. After Boudha is the ancient town of Sankhu. We take local jeep tracks to reach Nagarkot, a famous hillside resort with panoramic views of the Himalayas. We will have lunch in Nagarkot. Next is Changunarayan, a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is home to the oldest stone inscription in Nepal, dating back to 464 AD. On the ride back we skirt by the old Kingdom of Bhaktapur and through Thimi, home to some of the greatest architecture in Nepal. We finish our ride by passing by Pashupatinath, the largest temple complex in Nepal. This day ride will be an exciting and immersive way of seeing the city’s most famous temples and giving you a chance to get out of the city to the hilltop village of Nagarkot.
#2
Kakani
4 Hrs, Max Altitude: 2070m Lunch included
Grab some fresh mountain air on this trip along the top of the Kathmandu basin taking mainly paved roads. Kakani is a town 24 km to the north west of Kathmandu on the valley rim which sits at 2070 meters. There are stunning views from here of many Himalayan peaks: Gosaikunda, Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu Himal, Annapurna Himal and Rolwaling Himal can all be seen from this spot on a clear day. The village of Kakani is famous for strawberry and white radish farming and alongside the many cold streams flowing down the hill are local trout farmers. We then ride on the back road to Budhanilkanta temple to see the sleeping Vishnu. Then back to Kathmandu.

Shivapuri Loop

Shivapuri National Park is located on the northern fringe of the Kathmandu Valley, home to Leopards, Jungle Cats, Himalayan Black Bears, Barking Deer, Golden Jackals, Civets, Mongoose, Wild Boar, Chinese Pangolin and Hanuman Langur along with over 300 species of Birds. We will ride northwest out of Kathmandu passing by old Newari farming land and up to Guruje Bhanjyang (a small hill pass) at 1900m. From the pass you can see the Himalayas when the weather is clear. We traverse around the National forest on a local village jeep track. We then arrive at Chisapani 2150m for a quick lunch break. We head back to Kathmandu via Jaharsingpawa pass 1800m along a spoilt black top road.
#5
Nuwakot Durbar
7 Hrs, Max Altitude: 1800m Lunch included
This ride out takes you outside of the Kathmandu valley to the ancient citadel in Nuwakot. The old palace fort historically was a crucial trading point for Malla Kings of the Valley. Standing strong for over 1000 years, there is lots of history here, not to mention the recent unification of Nepal by Prithvi Narayan Shah. We ride on a mixture of sandy tracks and gravel roads on the way to Nuwakot passing farmland and the Lipu river. The road is sandy and slippery towards Trishuli Bazaar and up to Nuwakot Durbar, although not overly technical. From here we can go back the same route to Kathmandu or head back on the busy highway via Galchi.
