This ride takes you on mostly dirt tracks around the National Park, it is a good route for riders who enjoy lush green forests and fresh mountain air. Also some experience of riding on dirt tracks is recommended.
Shivapuri National Park is located on the northern fringe of the Kathmandu Valley and named after Shivapuri Peak of 2732 m. Inside this national park have been reported many different species of wildlife including: Indian leopard, Jungle cat, large Indian civet, Golden jackal, Himalayan black bear, Yellow-throated marten, Small Asian mongoose, Himalayan goral, Barking deer, Wild boar, Rhesus monkey, Hanuman langur, Chinese pangolin, Indian crested porcupine, Himalayan pika, Black naped hare, Himalayan squirrel, Fawn-coloured mouse, Brown-toothed shrew and black rat. They have also recorded 318 species of birds.
We will ride northwest out of Kathmandu through the town of Tokha, an old Newari agricultural town. Passing by the farming land we ride on switchbacks up to Guruje Bhanjyang at 1900 m, a small hill pass. From the pass you can see the Himalayas when the weather is clear. Traversing around the National forest on a local village jeep track, the track may be muddy and slippery, and there is always one side of the track with a steep drop at the side. Along the forested track are also several beautiful waterfalls which you can enjoy a pit stop beside. Arriving at Chisapani 2150m for a quick lunch break. We then head back to Kathmandu via Jaharsingpawa pass 1800m along a spoilt black top road. Reentering Kathmandu we pass by the ancient Newar town of Sankhu, also catching sight Changu Narayan temple and later Boudhanath Stupa.
