Price for Groups of 3-4: £150.00

Price for Groups of 5+: £130.00

Ride a mixture of paved roads and dirt tracks, experience the chaotic Kathmandu city traffic on a motorbike, leave the dust behind you and grab some fresh mountain air on this trip along the top of the Kathmandu basin.

Kakani is a town 24 km on the north west of Kathmandu on the valley rim which sits at 2000 meters. There are stunning views from here with the backdrop of the Himalayas: Gosaikunda, Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu Himal, Annapurna Himal and Rolwaling Himal can all be seen from this spot on a clear day. The village of Kakani is famous for strawberry and white radish farming and in the many cold streams flowing alongside the hill are local trout farmers.

Our ride first takes us towards Nagarjun forest on the eastern side of the valley through small mountain villages and besides terraced rice paddies. Riding along the top of the basin heading north west we reach Kakani, here we’ll stop and rest a while and try some of the delicious fried or curried trout. Then after lunch we head down the steep forested hillside on local dirt tracks, riding over 2 different hill passes, the terrain on this Kakani day ride is rougher than the fully paved ride out. We descend back into Kathmandu valley to Budhanilkanta temple. Here we visit the Sleeping Vishnu statue, this stone carving is the largest of its kind, carved out of one single stone.

The legend of the sleeping Vishnu at Budhanilkanta ( translated as old blue throat) says Vishnu (a form of Shiva) drank the poison that would have destroyed the world and with his throat burning he created Gosaikunda Lake in the Himalayas with the force of his Trident and plunged into it to quench his thirst, the only mark left on him was his blue throat. The water the Sleeping Vishnu is lying in is said to originate from Gosaikunda.

Duration of the trip will be 7 hours including lunch.

Helmets, gloves and masks can be provided at an extra cost of £10.00 (subject to availability)
